A personal introduction from Wade Crawford, founder of Exchange Packet.
History
Hello, and thank you for visiting. My name is Wade Crawford, and I founded Exchange Packet. This is a short account of how the company came to be.
I have worked with computers since I was very young. I have kept up with new technology ever since and have never stopped learning.
I grew up in Mayfield, Kentucky, and graduated from Mayfield High School, where I was part of the electrical vocational program and took part in several technology extracurricular activities. Together they gave my interest a practical, hands-on footing.
Since 2016 I have done technology work for hire, at first on the side. Over those years I followed how technology changed and kept track of standards and best practices, so that my work stays current and well made.
In January 2023 I moved to Florida and began working in the hospitality industry. There I learned what it takes to provide exceptional service, and I brought that home with me. After moving back to Kentucky in January 2025, I began working in IT professionally, and what started as a hobby grew into Exchange Packet, a company based in Mayfield, Kentucky. That same spirit of care and hospitality is what I bring to every customer of Exchange Packet.
Name and logo
The name Exchange Packet joins two words, each with a meaning of its own. “Exchange” is about trade and movement: goods, money, and information passing from one party to another. That is the work of the company, done with technology. The word also comes from Exchange Place in the New York financial district, which I visited and which stayed with me. “Packet” has two meanings. A packet boat was a vessel that carried mail, goods, and passengers on a regular route along a river, and Western Kentucky has always been river country. In networking, a packet is the small unit of data that carries information from one device to another. Together the two words describe the job: a dependable carrier of information.
In the logo, the globe is the earth. The ring around it is the path of a satellite circling the planet, and it is also the packets of data that surround us everywhere, moving constantly and in order. The one mark carries both ideas: a place, and the information moving through it.
Approach
Technology should work for you, not the other way around. Too often it becomes something to fight with: systems that are confusing, equipment that was oversold, and vendors who are hard to reach once the sale is done. I started Exchange Packet to work in a way that makes technology a tool that serves you.
That begins with a conversation about what you are trying to accomplish and what has been getting in the way. From there, the options are laid out clearly so every decision is made with the full picture, and the work is set up around how you and your staff run things day to day, with support as it is needed.
This is also why consulting matters to me. I do not want anyone to be steered by a company that does not share their best interest. Exchange Packet works without sales targets of any kind, so advice comes down to what suits you. That helps you buy only what fits and helps your dollar go further. I am glad to review a quote or design from another firm in that role.
Whether you have a single question or a full project in mind, we are glad to help. You can reach us on the Contact page. I appreciate you taking the time to learn about Exchange Packet.
